Front garden (Cambridge) / Cottage + biodiversity

Originally a wasteland of weedy block paving, we transformed this front garden into a welcoming space filled with colour, year-round structure and lots of niches for biodiversity. The planting palette draws on cottage gardens as well as the Mediterranean, acknowledging the dry climate of East Anglia! Rather than a private space, the client wished for a generous garden open to the neighbourhood with seating for morning coffee to be enjoyed.

Meanwhile, we worked with a local bespoke woodworker on the bin store (as pictured) which uses a fun range of drought-tolerant miniatures planted into a sand mix. Just like being at the seaside! When they’ve settled in these will fill out the top of the bin store, enlivening the view from the kitchen window.
