Gravel garden (Ely) / Climate resilience and low maintenance

These clients wanted a low input, resilient garden to enjoy the evening sun and entertain guests. The gravel mulch keeps weeds and watering to a minimum, and the other landscaping materials were chosen to harmonise with this - including the organic hazel hurdles screening the garden while allowing light and air through. The planting has a Mediterranean palette at its core, including lots of culinary herbs and scented plants. These are augmented by some New Zealand species to remind the clients of home!
